A Collaboration Between Alleghany Writers & The Blue Ridge Fiber Fest
Our connection to textiles - Making your first quilt, learning to knit, the handmade treasures passed down through the family, tales of mill life from past generations. These are some of the stories we want to bring to life, capture and preserve.
People often speak about the local history we lose as the older generation passes. "Our Common Thread" is meant to recognize their value and safeguard those stories as part of our heritage.
The Story Telling - Beginning in early spring Alleghany Writers will have group gatherings to talk about our personal connections to the role of textiles in our family history.
The Story Writing - In addition, Alleghany Writers will offer a memoir workshop to help writers develop the stories into finished pieces of work.
The Story Sharing - Plan to join us for a performance of these family stories and memories that illustrate the importance of textiles to our culture, our personal history, and our connection to each other. June 7,8 2019 at the Fiber Fest. The plan is to publish the stories in a book after the Fiber Fest.
