In Alleghany, we have folk art, not souvenirs. You’ll see more farms than fast food, and more cows than people. We’ve got true Appalachian mountain beauty, undiluted by large universities, parking garages, and light years away from the rat race. Alleghany is where you will still find unspoiled views, pristine nature, and quiet solitude. A place where life is still simple and the air is still clean.

We are the heart of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Milepost 234, at Roaring Gap marks the geographic center of America’s most beloved roadway and our very own Cumberland Knob is where construction began back in 1935.

We hope you enjoy your visit as much as we love living here. Maybe you’ll even decide to stay for a while.

For most of the summer the pumpkin fields go unnoticed.  The broad leaves of the plants protect first the blooms then the small pumpkins.  But as the days shorten and the temperatures cool, the leaves begin to whither, revealing thousands of bright orange pumpkins…..
